Grandmaster William McDonald began his training in 1972 in Texas. With extensive training throughout his life, Grandmaster McDonald has attained several titles through his martial arts education. Including a 6th degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon-Do, a 2nd degree Black Belt in Moo Duk Kwan, 1st degree Black Belt in Kenpo Karate, Instructors level in Muay Thai & Master level in the art of Kubudo (weapons). In addition to this, Grandmaster McDonald has also competed in national and international tournaments throughout his career.
 
Over the years, Grandmaster McDonald has achieved outstanding recognition in the martial arts industry. Creator of the Hot Shots Anti-kidnapping/Safety Awareness program for children and the Survivors Self-Defense/Self-Empowerment program for adults in 1994, evolved into the discipline Tong Il Lo, Grandmaster William McDonald has educated and promoted thousands of students throughout the United States. Being well known as an innovator of the martial arts, he coined the International Combative Martial Arts Association (ICMAA), in 1998, to help network martial artist throughout the different systems. Further, he has promoted full contact / amateur MMA competition. 


Being recognized by the martial art community for such outstanding accomplishments, through his leadership & developmental skills with the youth, Grandmaster McDonald and his systems have been inducted several times by prestige hall of fames from 1998 through 2003. Such noble organizations include the Texas Martial Arts Hall of Fame & the United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame.

“Martial Art Founder of the Year” in 2002
“Grandmaster of the Year” in 2003


Also in 2003, the International Martial Arts Headfounders-Grandmaster’s Council promoted him to 10th Degree Black Belt, recognized as the highest level attained in most martial arts. Finishing off that year, he was the first Grandmaster chosen to receive an award from Who’s Who in Martial Arts for his outstanding achievements. Including in his successes, Grandmaster McDonald was honored to serve as a member of the Board of Directors, of the Texas Martial Arts Hall of Fame, from 2004 to 2007.
 
Grandmaster William McDonald is now recognized in over 60 countries as a leading martial art entrepreneur, innovator, spokesman, entertainer, and authority. Owning, producing, and co-hosting the top rated broadcast martial art media show, known as Karate Kast Network, his popularity to martial art enthusiast has grown by leaps & bounds.

More recently, Grandmaster McDonald has developed the Civilian Defense Program (CDP).  He designed this program for those who might not want to be in a structured martial art environment, but still wishes to defend themselves in a realistic and practical form.  In addition, Grandmaster McDonald is known throughout many communities as a motivational speaker for leadership, youth development, and self-empowerment.

It is his life long goal to expand the teachings of Tong Il Lo throughout the world and to help dissolve the boundaries of prejudice and conflicting ideals between individuals and establish unity through the expression of his teachings.
