Student / Instructor Relationship
Student Side
Student Side
- Never tire of learning. A good student can learn any place and any time. A student must always be eager to learn and ask questions. This is the secret to knowledge.
- A good student must be willing to sacrifice for his art and instructor. Many students feel that their training is a product brought with monthly dues, and are unwilling to take part in demonstrations, teaching and working around the classroom. An instructor can afford to lose this type of student.
- Always set a good example for lower ranked students. It is only natural that they will attempt to imitate senior students.
- Never betray a trust. Always be loyal to and honest with your instructor(s) and never criticize them, Tong Il Lo, or the teaching methods.
- When an instructor teaches a technique or ideal, you should practice it and attempt to utilize it.
- Remember that a student’s conduct outside the classroom reflects on Tong Il Lo and the instructor.
- If a student adopts a technique from another classroom and the instructor disapproves of it, the student must discard it immediately or train in the class where the technique was learned.
- Never be disrespectful to the instructor. Though a student is allowed to disagree with the instructor, they must first follow the instruction and then discuss the matter later.
- A student should always be alert in and outside of the classroom in order to offer assistance automatically to the instructor or other students whenever necessary without being asked, as well as be willing to help the instructor whenever he/she is asked to.
- Never betray the instructor.
